Singer Malaysia performed a bold experiment recently at the Taman Jaya Lake. In an attempt to prove the effectiveness of its Singer LifeStraw Home 1.0 Water Purifier, a team from the company carried out a test. Through the three stages of filtration incorporated into the purifier, the water from mentioned lake was tested. The results showed that the water from the lake (after filtration) was purified of chlorine and odour, plus 99% free from bacteria, viruses and protozoan. The water also showed reduced turbidity.
The purification process is achievable due to an ultra membrane filter. It is designed to filter up to 5,000. litres of raw or untreated water. This works out to an average of a year's use for a family of five, or depending on the quality of the untreated water, it may last even longer. The water purifier requires no installation or electricity. Maintenance is minimal, only needing occasional cleaning of the pre-filter and some basic flushing and periodical back-washing of the membrane filter to ensure continuos clean drinking water.
The Singer LifeStraw Home 1.0 Water Purifier is an innovation of Vestergard-Frandsen, aglobal company based in Switzerland with expertise in R&D, product and design development that contributes to a healthier and more sustainable planet. It is certified by the United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), US food & Drug Administration (USFDA) and endorsed by World Health Organisation (WHO). Singer Malaysia general manager of marketing services Ng John Kit said that the water purifier is created in line with Singer's vision, which is "providing affordable and quality products for consumers". He added that the Singer LifeStraw Home 1.0 Water Filter has been proven to be the most reliable product in the market and its price of RM229 makes it, by far, the most affordable water filtration system.
The counter top unit is designed to hold nine litres per hour. Besides a home unit, Singer Malaysia also carries the LifeStraw Go water bottle designed for outdoor use. It comes in handy during travel or outdoor activites like hikes, where clean drinking water is scarce.
Simply scoop water from a stream for instance, and as one drinks from the bottle, the water goes through the central membrane in the bottle, through the straw.
The LifeStraw Go water bottle is made to last for a year. Both these water filtration units come with a six-month warranty period(terms and conditions apply).
